Meetup frenzy in Palmy North

Objective has been hosting valuable meetups - enabling the team to gain and share valuable insights with the Palmerston North tech community

There is something that can be said for the value of face-to-face tech meetups and learning. While the internet is a fantastic host of all the resources you could imagine, nothing could substitute the value of traditional events. Tech meetups help with establishing professional networks, as well as the opportunity to learn the latest industry insights first-hand.

Palmerston North is becoming known for its tech community. The Objective team have been embracing this opportunity and have recently been hosting and attending various tech meetups.

Recently, Casey Orr, Amazon Regional Solutions Architect of AWS visited the Objective Palmerston North Development Centre to discuss why common cloud skills are becoming essential for developers and system engineers alike. He discusses some of the common patterns which provide the ability to quickly solve problems in a scalable and cost-effective manner. Casey shared some tips and guidelines around up-skilling in cloud technologies.

This was a valuable meetup for Objective to host as SOC-2 certified AWS hosting is provided for products such as Objective Connect. It was exciting for the team to connect with Casey and learn more about common cloud skills as well as AWS - the massive, global cloud infrastructure which enables them to quickly innovate, and iterate. Pizza afterwards was the topper on the cake.

Another meetup held at the Objective Palmerston North Development Centre explored “How to apply scrum in a less than perfect agile world” – hosted by Heather Todd, Delivery Coach at FMG. This interactive session explored what scrum is and what it is like to implement in an organisation. Attendees left with some background in scrum, as well as insights into what has worked for other companies. They were able to share their own experiences and learn from other attendees as to what did or didn’t work for them.

In March, Palmerston North City Council hosted a meetup at the Objective Palmerston North Development Centre to discuss the importance of purpose, goals and history as well as take a deep dive into water telemetry and capturing the data around it.

“It is fantastic to see a vibrant software development community in Palmerston North supporting the regular software meetups attracting outstanding local speakers and the interest of global organisations. Objective is thrilled to be able to provide the venue (and a few pizzas) to help facilitate its ongoing success,” commented Jeremy Dombroski, Development Manager at Objective.
